A website checklist before you apply for Meta Business Verification
Meta Business Verification (used for WhatsApp Business Platform, ads and other features) asks you to prove your business is real. Meta’s exact requirements change, so always follow the current instructions in Business Manager. What follows is a practical checklist based on how the process is described by Meta and on general experience; it is not a guarantee of approval.
1. Make the legal name identical everywhere
The name on your registration document, the name you type into Business Manager and the name on your website should be the same. For a sole proprietorship in India, that usually means the name shown on your Udyam certificate or other registration. A trading name that differs from the document is a common source of rejection.
2. Show your contact details in plain text
Put the business name, full postal address, phone number and email on the site, ideally in the footer of every page and on a contact page. Use the same format everywhere. Avoid showing contact details only as an image.
3. Explain what the business does
A visitor, or a reviewer, should understand within a few seconds what you sell and to whom. Describe your services in your own words, with real specifics. Avoid placeholder text, “coming soon” pages and stock claims you cannot support.
4. Publish the basic policies
A privacy policy is required by WhatsApp Business policy. Terms of service and a refund or cancellation policy make a business look established and set expectations for customers. If you message people on WhatsApp, say how they opt in and how they opt out.
5. Make sure the site works
Use HTTPS, check that every link works and that pages load on a phone. A site that errors, redirects oddly or is mostly empty looks unfinished.
6. Verify the domain
Meta lets you verify a domain you control in three ways: a meta tag in the <head> of the home page, a DNS TXT record, or an HTML file uploaded to the web root. Leave the tag, record or file in place afterwards, since Meta may check again.
7. Keep your documents readable
Upload a clear, complete, current document that shows the exact business name and address you entered. If the address on the document differs from the address on the site, fix the mismatch before applying.
What not to do
- Do not invent clients, awards or registrations to appear bigger.
- Do not use someone else’s name, logo or documents.
- Do not apply repeatedly with different details hoping one passes.
